Making Sense Out Of The Mysteries Of God
The Resurrection of Christ and the church is just one mystery of eleven in the New Testament. Is the resurrection a fraud or a fact? (Bible Translastion used are The Message & The Good News

Having the Mind of Christ
If you've ever wondered what your priviledge as a Christian is this message might answer that nagging question. (Bible Translastion used is The NRSV English-Greek Reverse Interlinear New Testament).

Worthy or Unworthy?
Partaking of the Lord's Supper (communion) is unsettling to many Christians. Often the word "unworthy" is the word they stumble over. A look at the scripture tells us there is NO reason to be alarmed (Bible Translastion used is The Message).

The Church in "Acts"tion
(October 5th, 2008)
Paul would go on to tell the Corinthians which is almost another 10 years down the road, that he would that the church, meaning the believers, that we would all believe the same thing, and we would all speak the same thing. How many of you know we are still working on that? We’re still working on trying to dot every “I” and cross every “T.” So he’s telling us that is the ideal of God; that we would all preach and believe the same thing. And the proof that we’re still working that way is just simply…We are United Methodists. I’m sure there is a Baptist church in town isn’t there? They’re a little different than us right? We don’t hold that against though them do we? There’s a Catholic church in town I believe. There is probably a Church of Christ in town. And I don’t all the ones that are in town, and each one has a little, some have a lot, but each one has a little variance in what they believe is the duty and walk of the Christian. But it is what the apostle’s tell us, actually what Luke tells us in the latter verses of that second chapter is that they had all things in common, and they distributed to those by their need, what you actually needed, and they continued with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house and did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.

Jesus the Center of God's Vison
(September 21th, 2008)
I want to add something to that. Last week I spoke about God's vision. This week we have to put Christ in it. What we find out is Christ becomes the center of God's vision. And I have a verse here actually it’s a couple of verses that I could probably preach two hours on easy. No takers there...OK...then you're going to get the abridged version. Listen to this passage of scripture. It will sound familiar right from the start.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was with God. Obviously I am in John one, one. The same was in the beginning with God. Now listen to verse three. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. So we begin to realize by John's New Testament writing that Christ meaning Jesus, was in the beginning with God, and we often times think of it in the triune-ness or the trinity of God. Not trying to be too heavily theological this morning. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We find that Christ was in the beginning long before Adam and Eve was: Jesus as the Word of God. What we find out in verse fourteen; And the Word, meaning Christ, the Logos, was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, remember you read Psalm two today? That's what you read! We beheld his glory. The glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

God has a Vison
(September 14th, 2008)
I would like to start today with a quote to kind of build the message this morning.. This is a quote from 1870. This person says..."The millenium is at hand. Man has invented everything that can be invented. He has done all he can do.”
These words were spoken by a bishop at a church gathering in 1870. They were challenged by the presiding officer, who suggested that a great invention would be made within the next fifty years.
The bishop asked him to name such an invention.
The reply: “I think man will learn to fly.”
The bishop replied that this was blasphemy. “Don’t you know that flight is reserved for angels?”
The bishop was Milton Wright, father of Orville and Wilbur Wright.

The Hardest Prayer You Will Ever Pray
(August 17, 2008)
"Why does God take so long to answer prayer...or is it just me that asks that? The simple answer is...actually the copout answer is he's God...he can do what he wants he's soverign. But I think the actual answer is back in the prayer of praying not my will but...thine be done. That as we pray sometimes our prayer isn't focused in the direction according to what? Remmember first epistle John chapter five I told you last week... we have this confidence. I have confidence that when I pray God listens. I also have the confidence that sometimes he is going to say what...NO! BUT...he is going to say no...and he also going to say but...look over here! Because you are selling yourself short. God wants to give you his...best...not his second third or fourth best. Therefore when we pray we want his... best. What I am asking for may be his second third of fourth best. But God wants to give me his best!"

Behold Your King
(Palm Sunday 2007)
"If you're living in fear trust more in God. I know that sounds easy. The Proverb writer says forus tolean not to our own understanding...but instead to lean on God. Tell him you're afraid,…tell him what your problemsare. Tell him how anxious you are and let him deal with it with his peace...’cause he'll bring you peace because its a promise. Because he's not given us that Spirit of fear that he told Timothy in his second Epistle. He's given us a Spirit of power, of peace, and I like the last one...a sound mind. Cause I've already been called crazy...have you? Can anybody believe I'm nuts…don't answer that. So he rode into the city on a burrow...symbolizing I've come in what? Peace! I mean I'm the king but I'm riding on a what? Think of the imagery used here...this is beautiful."

The Passion of the Christ Part One
(02-04-2007)
If you and I had to suffer for our missing the mark...how bad would we have to suffer? How many want to think that thought? So it goes back to the passion. It's the Passion of the Christ. It was how he was revealed. And how he came to his own and his own received him not. And how he suffered. That's the whole concept of the Passion of the Christ. That's why the critics didn't like the movie. Because they said there was too much suffering too much gore. That's what the scripture is trying to tell us. This was not a pleasant thing. This was a thing which should have been ours. But God gave it to somebody else. And that person took it wilfully to the cross!

Stand for Something or Fall for Anything!
We have to stand for something as a church. We have to... because we're it. We are the light of the world, the salt of the earth, a city sat on a hill that cannot be hid. And so we need some embodiment we some embolden Jesus said if you can believe...all things are possible! God help me to be faithful as I know you are faithful.

Don't Let the Rocks Cry Out
(Palm Sunday Sermon 2004)
Yea he got proclaimed King all right didn't he? Sure he did... absolutely exactly like it was prophesied. But he wasn't proclaimed King by his people...he was proclaimed King by Pilate. And Pilate put the subscription on the cross. They went back to Pilate and said no no no no no write on it he said he was. Pilate said uh ho, I've written what I have written and he drove them out. Don't let the rocks cry out in your place.

Take Away The Stone
Now you and I both know... Jesus could have called him forth out of that rock. He could have said Lazarus come forth and he'd a just vaporized right out of that rock. He didn't have to have that rock rolled away. He could have said Lazarus come forth and there could have been a great earthquake and the rock rolled itself away. He wanted us to understand that we have to do our part...and our part is to allow God an opportunity to move into our heart... to move in. Because Lazarus was in a tomb he was dead and he needed to come out. Roll that stone away and let me bring him to life. And that's what you and I have to do every day of our life...is make sure that rock stays rolled out of the way. That he can come in and bring our heart to life.

Suicide: A Different Christian Perspective
In 2003 in a church I was pastoring a wonderful lay speaker, father, and business owner suddenly and abruptly killed himself with no advance warning. This is the message that I preached to the church family the Sunday following the tragedy. This message on suicide takes a different look at this tragedy that strikes down over 200,000 people in the U.S. yearly. Read this companion article on suicide.
"Is there anything I can take from this...how can I be in tune with people...you willfind people who are ill in their mind are very good at hiding their illness."

Frankly Forgiven Pt 2
"Jesus always meets us in our life…where we live. So Jesus says to Simon I’ve got a question to ask you. Simon says OK go ahead. He said there was a certain creditor…I wish I had Roger here…that had two debtors. One of them owed five hundred pence and the other fifty. And when neither could pay he “frankly forgave” them both. I’ve always marveled at that word “frankly forgiven.” Anybody want to be frankly forgiven? Neither could pay it didn’t make any difference…I’ve seen times in mylife where it wouldn’t have mattered if I needed five dollars or five thousand dollars I didn’t have either one…how about you? It doesn’t make any difference. Neither of them could pay...whether you’re a rich man or a poor man both could identify with this. Because it’s the ability to pay back…neither could pay. And so the creditor frankly forgave them both. I’m going to the bank tomorrow and ask them to forgive my mortgage. Why are you all laughing? Tell me therefore which of them will love him the most. Well that’s a no brainer’ isn’t it? Simon said I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. He said unto the man you’ve rightly judged."
